Does Yogi Detox Tea Help Pass a Drug Test ?
Yogi detox tea is claimed to offer various health benefits. However, some users have been claiming that this green tea can also help pass a drug test.
So, I decided to do my own research for informational purposes. I went deep and spent countless hours reading forums and reviews. I’ve also talked to friends who’ve used this product to pass a drug test.
Today, I’ll talk about how detox tea can help you pass drug tests, the Yogi detox tea ingredients, and its relation to THC.
What You Should Know About Detoxing
Detox is the process in which people attempt to flush out harmful toxins by limiting certain foods or liquids.
Current research states there’s little evidence that supports the claim that detox diets can help you eliminate toxins from the body [1].
However, many people claim they feel better after detoxing. This is probably because they’ve eliminated processed foods, which contain a lot of saturated fats and added sugar.
“Simply avoiding these high-calorie, low-nutrition foods for a few days may be part of why people feel better.” – Katherine Zeratsky LD, RD
Detox diet is usually used for:
- Body fat reduction, i.e., weight loss
- To clean the system from harmful substances
The body does a good job of eliminating toxins from within. However, for people who need extra help, a detox diet can provide additional benefits.
But, there are also some side effects, such as:
- Low energy
- Low blood sugar
- Fatigue
- Dizziness
This is why it’s a good idea to consult a healthcare professional before starting detox diets.
Detoxing vs. Flushing
If you’re looking to pass a drug test, don’t confuse these two terms.
Detoxing is the removal of the THC metabolites from the body, i.e., cleaning your system of weed.
Flushing is the temporary removal of THC metabolites from the urine, and it can help you pass urine tests.
Can You Pass a Drug Test with Yogi Detox Tea?
Here’s how detox diets and passing drug tests are related. There’s a belief that detox drinks, for example, Yogi, or other teas with the same purpose, work to flush out the toxins from the body and dilute THC to a level that THC metabolites can’t be discovered on a drug test.
I didn’t find any scientific research supporting the claim that Yogi can help people pass a drug test.
I did, however, find several comments on forums such as Quora and Reddit from users who claim that drinking Yogi has helped them cheat on a drug test.
These people may have passed their drug tests after using Yogi because of several reasons:
- The amount of body fat they have. The rule is – the less fat a person has, the shorter the drugs will stay in their body.
- How much weed they smoke
- How often they smoke marijuana
- How accurate the test was
Here’s what these users claim their marijuana detox looked like:
- Stop using marijuana at least two days before the test
- Eat and drink nothing but tons of green tea or Yogi teas
- Do as much cardio as you can
If you’re a lean person, this will help you with flushing THC metabolites out of your system.
Note: You don’t have to be super thin for detox tea to work for you. Since THC metabolites are stored in fat cells, green tea helps burn the fat cells to eliminate THC through urine removal. So essentially, green tea helps your weight loss as it has high detox properties.
Next, I checked the Yogi tea ingredients to see their health benefits and effects on fat oxidation.
Yogi Tea Ingredients
Yogi detox tea contains several herbal ingredients, many of which have been used for a long time and are known for their antioxidant properties.
Let’s talk about each ingredient of this tea:
- Juniper berry — Has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Juniper berries have been used throughout history for urinary tract infections.
- Burdock root — Helps stimulate digestion and aids with liver issues. It’s also scientifically proven to have antioxidant properties [2].
- Dandelion — It is a natural diuretic. It’s a common ingredient of many teas because of its antioxidant properties. It can help improve digestion and can be used as a laxative.
- Black pepper — Indian researchers found that black pepper has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial qualities [3].
- Phellodendron bark — Alleviates stress and anxiety and limits fatigue.
- Indian Sarsaparilla Root — Used medicinally for its detoxifying properties.
- Rhubarb root — Supports bowel elimination.
- Gardenia fruit — Traditionally used in Chinese medicine, it supports bladder health and urinary tract health.
- Forsythia Fruit — It is a plant native to China, and it’s used in traditional Chinese medicine for its detox effect.
Apart from these ingredients, which can warm up the body, speed up the detox effect and your metabolism, Yogi tea also has several ingredients used for flavoring. These are ginger, long pepper, cinnamon, and cardamom.

Green Tea and THC
I’ve mentioned the difference between detoxing and flushing. In these two cases, the body works in different ways to get rid of marijuana and its properties.
Once you consume marijuana, THC — the main active marijuana ingredient — is converted to metabolites.
THC is contained in the body fat, and it’s slowly released into the bloodstream until it’s eventually excreted through urine and feces.
If you want a marijuana detox, you have to speed up the THC metabolism.
On the other hand, if you want marijuana flushing, you need to slow down the metabolism, so the new THC metabolites don’t get into the urine.
Let’s see how green tea (such as Yogi detox) helps with this.
Epigallocatechin Gallate and Caffeine
Green tea has two main components: epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and caffeine.
Epigallocatechin gallate is a catechin that aids weight loss.
This is how epigallocatechin gallate works: it inhibits an enzyme, which breaks down the hormone norepinephrine.
Once the enzyme is inhibited, norepinephrine increases. This leads to fat breakdown, which means THC is released from your body.
I’ve found some studies that investigated if catechins in green tea affect weight loss.
One meta-analysis of 49 studies says that catechins in green tea decreased body weight and helped maintain weight loss [4].
Let’s take a look at the other green tea component – caffeine.
Caffeine is claimed to help fat oxidation — the metabolic process of breaking down fatty acids.
One systematic review concluded that drinking green tea with caffeine and EGCG leads to significant weight loss.
On the other side, participants who didn’t have a high caffeine content didn’t have the same results [5].
So, when choosing green tea, go for the tea that isn’t caffeine-free, as caffeine will help release the toxins from the system, together with EGCG.
Will Yogi Detox Tea Work for THC ?
While I haven’t found any doctor testimonies that endorse drinking large amounts of green tea like Yogi to get rid of marijuana in your system, I found some users who claim they managed to do it with the help of Yogi tea.
If you decide to go down this road, be careful with how much green tea you drink. Yes, drinking green tea can have some health benefits and speed up your metabolism. However, too much tea can also be bad for your liver.
Also, be aware that whether drinking tea will help you pass a drug test depends on several factors, such as how fast your metabolism is and how much fat you have.
If you’re on the leaner side, give this tea a try. If you combine this tea with a dedicated cardio regime, you may be successful in speeding up your metabolism and getting rid of harmful substances.
