In 2012, Kohls became the largest department store chain in the United States.

The number of their employees rises every year, and in 2020, they had 122,000 employees. Considering this fact, it’s no surprise that many prospective employees want to know more about the hiring process in Kohls, as well as does Kohl’s drug test their employees.

We’ve decided to dig deeper into this topic and find out what an interview in this department store looks like. We also went straight to the source and visited Kohls website to learn what Kohls drug test policy is.

Here’s everything you should know about drug testing and things you may face if you want to be a part of this department store chain.

Does Kohls Perform Drug Testing?

A flask and test tubes with urine sampleWe’ve checked numerous online sources where Kohls employees talk about the pre-employment drug tests, as well as the process and other things they had to face.

The answers were mixed. Most people answered no, they’ve never experienced random drug tests. This goes for people with a part-time job, full-time employees, and associates.

Don’t think you’re in the clear just yet. We also went to their website and checked the information on the Kohls Store Applicant FAQs section [1], stating that people whose successful application may need to do pre-employment drug tests.

Also, although rarer, review websites do include experiences from people who were required to do drug tests.

Here’s what one anonymous Kohls employee had to say about his experience in the company:

“Very easy in a group setting. We were shown a short presentation, asked to fill out some paperwork then drug tested. The entire process took just as little over an hour, and you were hired the same day.”

To conclude: yes, you could be required to do a drug test. Kohls also reserves the right to do a drug test randomly, any time during employment, no matter if you are a part-time or full-time employee.

The company doesn’t specify when they perform a drug test, but we did some more digging.

Does Kohls Drug Test at Orientation?

A professional holding a urine sample in flaskAnother common question is if the company tests during the orientation week.

Once again, the most common answer we found is no.

However, there are instances when Kohls does a mouth swab test on their employees.

In fact, their online guide to getting a job with them lists all the details so you can get ready for the orientation.

More specifically, drug testing is mentioned in the part where they talk about a background check. You can be drug tested at the same time you complete and submit the form, which shows your consent to the Kohls drug test.

Whether you’ll be tested during your employee orientation also depends on the store location. For example, many Ohio state employees, both old and new hires, claim that they’ve had to pass a drug test.

If you want to be a new Kohls hire, read the content guide they give at orientation about the employment terms and what will be expected of you at work, and do everything you can to pass the drug test.

What Kind of Drug Test Does Kohls Use?

They want to provide a safe environment for their customers and avoid any incidents. To do this, every member of the team should be free of toxins in their system.

Many employees reported that Kohls does a background check in almost every state they’re located in.

If your background check shows something that raises a red flag, such as convictions or a history of substance abuse, you’ll almost certainly be required to do drug tests.

For example, if you’re a convicted felon, there are times when this department store will hire you, so take advantage and apply for the job. However, you need to be prepared that they’ll almost certainly do a background check and ask you to complete a mouth swab drug test.

What Drug Tests Can Kohls Do?

A Urine and saliva test We’ve explained that you’ll need to do a drug test at orientation if your background check shows something suspicious. In this case, you can usually choose a time and place that works best for you.

Even if your background check comes back clean, a drug test can be conducted randomly during your employment. In this case, you’ll probably have to do the Kohl’s drug test on the spot. Take a look at your contract for information regarding the drug test and check what your right is in these situations.

There are two kinds of drug tests you may have to do, whether you’re a full-time or part-time hire.

The first one is a saliva test

To pass the saliva drug test without worries, get a capsule or a neutralizing liquid. Just put it in your mouth before the mouth swab test, chew it, and make sure to swirl it around your mouth before swallowing.

This will neutralize the saliva in your mouth for about half an hour. The good news is, you can pass it as medicine. Discreetly pop it in your mouth before the saliva drug test.

The other kind of test is urine drug tests. To make sure the results say passed, you can use synthetic urine and submit a fake urine sample drug test.

There are several trustworthy manufacturers out there; just make sure to follow instructions for heating and using the fake urine sample test strictly.

If you want to work around Kohl’s drug test in minutes and get hired in any state, you can try these easiest ways of passing a test.
