Teen Arrested After Positive THC Test While Out on Bond

A Rossford teen, charged with multiple felonies tied to a weapons incident, is back in jail after failing a court-ordered drug test.

Ezekiel James, 19, initially arrested in October for allegedly pointing a gun at someone, faced Wood County Common Pleas Court on Monday after testing positive for THC. Judge Molly Mack ordered him into custody and raised his bond to $5,000.

James was indicted in November on charges including carrying concealed weapons, tampering with evidence, unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance, and aggravated menacing.

The charges stem from an October 15 incident where Rossford police responded to a report of a juvenile with a firearm near Walnut Street and Dixie Highway, prompting a lockdown at a nearby school.

Officers apprehended James after spotting him run into a residence and emerge carrying an empty backpack. A search of the home uncovered a loaded sawed-off shotgun and handgun, neither of which belonged to the occupants, according to authorities.

While out on an own recognizance bond, James tested positive for THC four times, including Monday.

His defense attorney, Christopher Lawrence, acknowledged his client’s use of THC-infused gummies but argued it occurred weeks earlier and reflected confusion about bond conditions.

Judge Mack emphasized the no-marijuana policy, reinforcing strict GPS house arrest terms.

James now awaits a pretrial hearing set for February 7, with a jury trial scheduled for March 6.
