Patrick Beverley’s Unstoppable Streak: 11 Drug Tests, 4 Wins, and Fasting for Yom Kippur

Last Updated On: October 19, 2024

Patrick Beverley’s debut season with Hapoel Tel Aviv is off to a strong start, but not without its quirks.

The NBA veteran found himself undergoing 11 drug tests in quick succession, thanks to fasting for Yom Kippur, which skewed the results by causing “too much water” in his system.

Beverley, who joined the Israeli Premier League club in July after 12 seasons in the NBA, revealed the unusual testing on his podcast, The Pat Bev Pod.

His fasting, part of traditional Yom Kippur observances, coincided with Hapoel Tel Aviv’s recent four-game winning streak, beginning in early October.

Despite the disruption, Beverley’s performance remained rock solid.

Hapoel Tel Aviv picked up momentum with a key victory over Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem, followed by a win in the EuroCup against Dreamland Gran Canaria, where Beverley contributed 15 points, five rebounds, five assists, and five steals.

Leading the team in multiple categories, Beverley’s influence on Tel Aviv’s second-place standing in the EuroCup speaks volumes.

With a record of 3-1, they’re chasing the top spot and preparing for their next challenge against Bnei Herzliya in the Israeli Basketball Premier League.

Beverley’s whirlwind of fasting, late-night testing, and non-stop travel hasn’t slowed him down—if anything, it’s fueled a winning streak that continues to surprise and inspire.
