Jefferson County Drug Raids Uncover Major Haul of Narcotics, Firearms, and Cash

In a coordinated sweep Tuesday morning, the Jefferson County Drug Task Force executed four search warrants and made significant strides in their battle against narcotics trafficking.

By the end of the day, officers had seized 18.5 pounds of cocaine and fentanyl, five firearms, eight vehicles, and approximately $175,000 in cash.

Capt. John Lemal, Task Force Commander, noted the gravity of the operation.

“When you consider that fentanyl is sold in tiny fractions of a gram, removing this amount from the streets is a lifesaver,” Lemal said.

The seizure represents a substantial disruption to local drug distribution.

Among those arrested was Cherie Nelson, 55, facing serious charges including major drug offender status for possession of fentanyl.

Lionel Lindsey Jr., 51, faces similar charges, plus a weapons offense. Authorities expect further charges and potential arrests as the investigation continues.

The raids targeted three homes in Steubenville and a storage unit in Wintersville.

Steubenville Police Chief Kenny Anderson praised the cooperation between local law enforcement agencies, stating, “It’s the collective effort between our departments that makes these kinds of results possible. Together, we’re saving lives.”

Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla Jr. echoed the sentiment, adding, “This results from teamwork and hard work. It’s a victory for our community, and more importantly, it’s keeping dangerous drugs off our streets.”

Tuesday’s bust represents a significant victory for Jefferson County in its fight against the drug crisis—a fight where every ounce confiscated is a life potentially saved.
