Idaho Cracks Down on Major Drug Trafficking Network, 10 Arrested in Magic Valley

Idaho has scored a significant win in the fight against drug trafficking.

After a nearly year-long investigation, authorities have dismantled a major drug pipeline flowing into the Magic Valley, leading to 10 arrests.

State police, working closely with federal and local agencies, unraveled an Idaho-based operation linked to Arizona, California, and Mexico.

“Investigators began collaborating with local law enforcement in Jerome and Twin Falls counties, and from there, the case snowballed,” said U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit.

Several suspects now face serious charges, including conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to sell. Among those arrested were:

  • Oscar Alejandro Perez-Gomez, 32, of Jerome – conspiracy to distribute meth.
  • Patrick Delacruz, 40, of Jerome – conspiracy to distribute meth.
  • Leonardo Espinoza-Romero, 31, of Jerome – conspiracy to distribute meth.
  • Daniel D. Thomas, 47, of Jerome – conspiracy to distribute and possession of meth and cocaine.
  • Artemio Morgan Hurtado, Jr., 24, of Shoshone – conspiracy to distribute meth and using communication to facilitate a felony.
  • Luis Enrique Gonzalez, 40, of Jerome – conspiracy to distribute, distribution, and possession with intent to distribute meth.
  • Jesus Arturo Torres-Herrera, 36, of Twin Falls – possession with intent to distribute meth.
  • Raquel May, 28, of Twin Falls – possession with intent to distribute meth.
  • Robert Troglia, 52, of Jerome – distribution of meth.
  • Liliana Morales-Caliz, 34, of Jerome – four counts of meth distribution.

The investigation relied on a method known as a “controlled buy,” where undercover officers safely purchase drugs from suspects to gather evidence.

“It’s all monitored and ensures the drugs are immediately removed from the streets,” Hurwit explained.

In total, law enforcement seized 30 pounds of methamphetamine, cutting off a significant supply into the region.

Governor Brad Little applauded the operation, emphasizing Idaho’s commitment to keeping drugs out of the state.

“We want to send a clear message: Idaho isn’t the place for illegal activity. We’re working seamlessly across agencies to ensure no one slips through the cracks,” he said.

Authorities are confident this bust will help stem the tide of methamphetamine flowing into Idaho, but they’re not done yet.

“We’re hoping to make a lasting impact in Magic Valley through this case, and the partnerships we’ve built will be key to keeping other drug operations from taking root,” Hurwit said.

Trials for the suspects are expected to begin next month, marking the next phase in Idaho’s crackdown on drug trafficking.
