Home Depot, one of the largest employers in the U.S., is changing its drug testing policies, removing marijuana from screening tests for most workers.
Starting September 1, pre-employment testing for cannabis will no longer apply to most employees, except those in Asset Protection and Corporate Security roles.
This shift follows a broader trend among corporations adapting to evolving cannabis laws. The memo states Home Depot is updating its policies to remain competitive while complying with local, state, and federal regulations.
The policy change does not apply to employees regulated by the Department of Transportation.
It was first discussed in a Reddit post, where a user claimed they were informed of the new rules during a work meeting.
Several other Home Depot employees commented, confirming they had also heard similar announcements at their locations.
Home Depot now joins other companies moving away from cannabis testing, especially as states implement laws protecting employees from being penalized for legal, off-the-clock marijuana use.
This change aligns with ongoing discussions about cannabis-related employment policies as marijuana legalization continues to spread across the country.
The company’s decision reflects a growing trend among employers and industries reevaluating drug testing policies in response to evolving cannabis laws.
