A search for a fugitive in Lee County took a sharp turn when deputies uncovered a stash of drugs and firearms, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities had been tracking Jahare Centrell Cole, a 20-year-old suspect tied to multiple motor vehicle thefts in Lee, Wake, and Guilford counties, along with several felony probation violations.
The chase for Cole, backed by the N.C. Department of Adult Corrections, N.C. State Highway Patrol, and Sanford Police Department, led them to a home on Variety Lane in Sanford on October 16.
Once inside, deputies found more than they bargained for. During the raid, investigators discovered drug paraphernalia that prompted them to secure a second search warrant.
The search resulted in the seizure of fentanyl, marijuana, and two firearms, according to reports.
The homeowner, Tyjon Philandus Snipes, 24, was taken into custody and now faces a range of charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession with intent to sell fentanyl, marijuana, and felony drug possession.
Snipes’ bond was initially set at $150,000, with an additional $50,000 tacked on the following day for a parole violation.
As for Cole, he remains held without bond due to his pending larceny charges.
This incident highlights the unexpected discoveries that often come from routine fugitive searches, revealing deeper criminal activity hidden behind closed doors.
