Waterbury police intercepted a significant supply of fentanyl pills Thursday during a targeted drug bust, resulting in the arrests of three men with ties to ongoing narcotics complaints in the Bronson and Bishop streets area.
Detectives detained Dazown Mills, 33, Troy Crawford, 28, and Marquell Jones, 31, after a string of tips from local residents led them to the area.
The search uncovered 40 pills, many laced with fentanyl, along with crack cocaine and $282 in cash, underscoring the continued struggle communities face with opioids and other controlled substances.
Mills faces charges of possessing narcotics and hallucinogens with intent to sell, along with tampering with evidence. Held on a $75,000 bond, he appeared in court Friday.
Crawford, with a reported record of assault and probation violations, was also charged with intent to distribute various controlled substances, along with interfering with an officer.
Scheduled for arraignment on November 5, he was released on a promise to appear.
Meanwhile, Jones, who has a history of drug convictions, posted a $20,000 bond and awaits his court date for charges that include intent to sell hallucinogens and driving with a suspended license.
The arrests highlight a recurring theme in the city, where law enforcement and local residents work hand-in-hand to curb narcotics trafficking, hoping to reduce the drug presence that disrupts communities and endangers lives.
