In a landmark decision, CrossFit has permanently barred Shawn Ramirez from competing in its sanctioned events following a failed drug test during the 2024 Masters CrossFit Games.
The lifetime ban, effective September 1, 2024, is the first of its kind in the sport’s history.
Ramirez, who appealed the findings, had previously violated CrossFit’s Drug Testing Policy in 2018, testing positive for metabolites of GW501516, a banned substance.
That offense resulted in a four-year suspension, which ended in late 2022. The 2024 competition marked Ramirez’s return to the Games season after his initial penalty.
This second violation sealed his fate, as CrossFit moved to impose the unprecedented lifetime sanction.
The decision underscores the organization’s commitment to maintaining a level playing field and deterring repeat offenses in its community.
By delivering this historic ruling, CrossFit has set a somber yet resolute tone for its stance on anti-doping, ensuring fair competition remains at the heart of its ethos.
