CrossFit recently imposed 4-year sanctions on athletes Jamie McGarva and Dayana Vicentelli following violations of the sport’s drug testing policy.
McGarva, 50, tested positive for metabolites of GW501516 during the 2024 Masters CrossFit Games.
It was his first appearance at the Games, where he originally secured second place in the men’s 50-54 age group.
However, his performance has now been nullified, with Shawn Ramirez, previously suspended for a failed drug test in 2018, moving into second place, and Joel Hughes stepping up to third.
McGarva’s ban is retroactive to September 1, 2024, and will run through September 1, 2028.
Vicentelli’s case emerged after competing in the FITLAND Fitness Festival in Colombia, where her sample also tested positive for GW501516. CrossFit has confirmed her ban, effective from August 19, 2024, through August 19, 2028.
CrossFit’s drug testing policy allows the organization to enforce sanctions for violations recognized by other national anti-doping bodies.
Both athletes now join a growing list of competitors sidelined due to drug policy breaches. Earlier this year, Marcha van Glaanen Weygel also received a four-year ban after failing a drug test at a Masters Weightlifting competition.
