Conor Benn has announced his clearance by the National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP), marking what could be the end of a turbulent two-year period in his boxing career.
This saga began in 2022, when Benn’s highly anticipated bout with Chris Eubank Jr. was derailed after Benn failed two doping tests, leading to the fight’s cancellation and suspension of his British boxing license.
Following initial support from the World Boxing Council, which cleared Benn of intentional doping in early 2023, the NADP lifted his suspension in July.
Yet, the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) and UK Anti-Doping (Ukad) quickly appealed, prolonging the ordeal. Now, the NADP has dismissed Ukad’s claims, stating it was “not comfortably satisfied” that Benn committed a doping violation regarding clomifene.
While Ukad retains a 21-day appeal window, Benn seems poised for a triumphant return to the UK ring, his last fight on home soil dating back to April 2022.
Reflecting on the journey, Benn expressed gratitude, noting the past two years as the “toughest fight” of his life. His statement highlighted unwavering faith in his innocence and commitment to a clean sport.
Support from fans, family, and sponsors like Matchroom and Everlast, he said, fueled his resolve to persevere through this “rollercoaster” chapter.
Promoter Eddie Hearn echoed Benn’s relief, declaring, “After a horrendous two years and a full hearing, so happy Conor has finally been cleared.”
Benn’s recent bouts in Florida and Las Vegas kept his undefeated record intact, with wins over Rodolfo Orozco and Peter Dobson. Looking ahead, he’s ready to take on his next challenge—whoever that might be.
