A major drug bust in East Baton Rouge Parish has taken a suspected fentanyl trafficker off the streets, along with over 12,000 lethal doses of the dangerous drug.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO) announced the arrest of Charles Brown and two others following a two-month investigation.
The operation, which began with a tip from DEA agents in Atlanta, culminated on Tuesday, September 17, when search warrants were executed at multiple locations linked to Brown’s trafficking network.
According to officials, Brown had been under surveillance after being flagged as a known polydrug trafficker in Baton Rouge.
Investigators witnessed a drug transaction between Brown and a female accomplice, leading to her arrest and the seizure of one kilogram of fentanyl—a potentially deadly quantity.
Authorities conducted raids on Mapleton Drive, Riverview Drive, Airline Highway, and Old Hammond Highway, seizing a total of 1.25 kilograms of fentanyl (equivalent to around 12,520 lethal doses), along with other narcotics, firearms, and drug paraphernalia.
Among the seized items were:
- 1.25 kg of fentanyl
- 281 doses of Suboxone
- Drug processing equipment, including a hydraulic press, scales, and packaging materials
- $2,280 in cash
- Three handguns, two of which were reported stolen
The arrests included:
- Charles Brown, 25: Charged with distribution and possession of fentanyl, running a fentanyl lab, and related drug offenses.
- Jamari Chambers, 21: Charged with possession of fentanyl, illegal possession of firearms, and stolen property.
- Elizabeth Billiot, 25: Charged with fentanyl possession, stolen firearm possession, and drug paraphernalia.
Multiple divisions, including EBRSO’s SWAT, K9, and Gang Intelligence units, alongside federal agencies like the DEA and HSI, played crucial roles in dismantling this drug operation.
This bust underscores the growing danger of fentanyl in communities, as law enforcement continues its fight against the trafficking of this deadly substance.
