Jury selection is set to begin for Marquis Dixon, an Albany man facing charges for gun possession and drug-related offenses.
Dixon, 26, was arrested in 2023 while on parole and has since pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Back in June 2023, Dixon was apprehended after a report of a man with a handgun near Orange and Dove Streets.
According to authorities, Dixon attempted to flee when detectives approached but was caught carrying a loaded 9mm handgun.
Following his arrest, Dixon was placed in the Albany County Correctional Facility. It was there, on or around June 21, 2023, that officials allegedly found him in possession of illegal drugs.
Dixon now faces three charges: criminal possession of a weapon, promoting prison contraband, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Dixon first made headlines in 2016 when he was imprisoned for luring and robbing a man for his sneakers at the age of 16.
His case stirred debate about youth offenders, leading to reforms in state laws. After serving his time, Dixon was released in November 2016, seemingly with a fresh start.
However, since then, Dixon has found himself in legal trouble again, arrested multiple times on various charges.
Most recently, he was arrested in August 2021 on drug charges, followed by another arrest in January 2022 for unrelated gun offenses.
The Albany Police Department has reported over 10 arrests involving Dixon since his initial release in 2016.
The upcoming trial marks the latest chapter in Dixon’s legal saga, with jury selection starting Monday.
